Handsome evergreen shrub is very tolerant of pruning and shaping. Well-suited for topiary, entryways or hedging. Flowers in spring are insignificant but very fragrant. Prune in summer. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil and some shade.

Showy white flowers bloom in spring before purplish-red foliage opens and mature into edible, dark purple fruit. Makes a striking accent or specimen. Foliage contrasts with yellow- or silver-leaved foliage.
