Handsome evergreen shrub is very tolerant of pruning and shaping. Well-suited for topiary, entryways or hedging. Flowers in spring are insignificant but very fragrant. Prune in summer. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil and some shade.

Naturally found on lake and river edges, swamps, or flooded sites, this large coniferous tree is unique in that it loses its needles. Will grow in normal garden soil, and even tolerate drought once established.
